Jonesasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he is aware of the apprehension and unrest making itself felt in Dominica and other West Indian islands, in consequence of the increasing poverty of the natives; what steps he is taking to remove the cause of the trouble; and whether he will consider sending out a small fact finding commission.
§ Mr. LytteltonThere is indeed poverty in many West Indian Islands but I do not agree that it is increasing and I see no need for a fact finding commission. Under their development plans the Governments of the various Colonies, with the help of Her Majesty's Government, are increasing production and improving standards of life.
