HC Deb 28 February 1952 vol 496 cc209-10W
Major Hicks Beach

asked the Minister of Fuel and Power whether he will take steps to ensure that local committee meetings of the Gas Consultative Councils should, in the public interest, be open to the Press.

Mr. Geoffrey Lloyd

The large majority of Gas Consultative Councils consider that, although it is right for their own meetings to be open to the Press, the meetings of their local committees, which deal mainly with personal complaints, should be private. In this matter they are following a practice which is, I believe, widespread among local authorities, and I do not consider that it calls for my intervention.
