HC Deb 28 February 1952 vol 496 c210W
Dr. King

asked the Minister of Fuel and Power what research has been instituted and what improvements are contemplated in the noxious conditions under which men work in the gas industry.

Mr. Geoffrey Lloyd

Research is in hand on such matters as the elimination of the dust nuisance, the prevention of oxide caking in purifiers, the provision of safety devices in electric precipitators, and the design of plant to minimise leakages of noxious materials. I understand that the worst working conditions in the gas industry are mainly in old and inefficient gasworks which are being replaced as quickly as capital resources and material supplies permit. I am informed that working conditions in modern gas making plant are satisfactory.
