HC Deb 21 February 1952 vol 496 c44W
58. Sir W. Smithers

asked the Minister of Agriculture if, in view of the necessity of increasing meat production, he will take all necessary steps to increase the animal population on Exmoor so that Exmoor may carry cattle to the maximum capacity.

Sir T. Dugdale

I do not think Exmoor is understocked at present, but we are doing all we can to improve the farms there through grant-aided improvement schemes under the Livestock Rearing Act and through other schemes such as the Marginal Assistance Scheme. I believe that in time our efforts will enable more cattle to be grazed on Exmoor.
