Mr. Sorensenasked the Minister of Education, in view of the considerable disparity between education authorities in respect of grants to assist students in training colleges, whether she will recommend to all education authorities the desirability of approximating to a general standard for grants to these students; and whether she will call a conference of authorities to discuss this matter.
§ Miss HorsbrughI presume that the hon. Member refers to grants made by local education authorities towards incidental expenses, over and above the242W tuition and boarding costs for which grants are available from my Department.
Grants paid by authorities naturally vary according to the needs of individual students. I propose, however, to seek more information about the present practice in order to judge whether any steps should be taken in the direction which the hon. Member has indicated.
