HC Deb 09 December 1952 vol 509 c25W
78. Mr. Teeling

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether the refund of Purchase Tax allowed to hotels in proportion to the number of dollar-earning visitors they accommodated during the Festival of Britain year will be allowed for the Coronation year as well; how much money was claimed; and how much allowed for the Festival year.

Mr. Mackeson

The answer to the first part of the Question is "No." Applications were made for grants of approximately £450,000 under the Hotel Grants Scheme, but the supporting evidence required to substantiate them is coming in so slowly that it is still not possible to say what the total allowed will be. It seems likely, however, that it will be of the order of £380.000.
