HC Deb 09 December 1952 vol 509 cc25-6W
79. Miss Burton

asked the President of the Board of Trade what action is recommended by the Coronation Accommodation Committee on behalf of hotels which discover that accommodation reserved in their establishments is being offered at very high prices during the Coronation period; if he has considered the particular case given by the Agent-General of New South Wales to the hon. Member for Coventry, South, whereby he was offered as a favour to Commonwealth guests the invitation for two people of a two weeks' stay in a good hotel, plus seating elsewhere for the Coronation procession, at an inclusive charge of 550 guineas per person, excluding travel, of which he has received details; and what action he will take in the case in question.

Mr. Mackeson

I have written to the hon. Member about this case. The Coronation Accommodation Committee have investigated the offer made to the Agent-General of New South Wales and have found that the person making the offer has not secured reservations at either of the hotels mentioned by him.
