§ Mr. J. Johnsonasked the Under-Secretary of State for Commonwealth Relations how far preliminary survey has been made for a railway leading from Bechuanaland to Walvis Bay; and what were the results.
§ Mr. Lennox-BoydI have been asked to reply.
178WAs far as I am aware the only preliminary survey of a possible railway line from Southern Rhodesia through the Bechuanaland Protectorate to Walvis Bay was made in 1931 by Mr. J. L. S. Jeffares. Mr. Jeffares's report was presented to the Southern Rhodesian Legislative Assembly and a copy may be inspected in the Commonwealth Relations Office Library.
