§ Sir H. ShawcrossI understand that experiments in the manufacture of newsprint from sugar-cane waste have taken place in the United States but not, so far as I am aware, in this country. While I would welcome any prospect of alleviating the present shortage of newsprint, I doubt whether any development on these lines, which may prove practicable, would bring any alleviation of our newsprint difficulties in the next year or two.
