HC Deb 21 March 1951 vol 485 cc297-8W
108. Mr. Hector Hughes

asked the Postmaster-General what is the total cost per hour to his Department caused by Sittings of the House after 10.30 p.m.; and what are the items included in that total cost.

Mr. Hobson

The total cost per hour incurred by the Post Office on account of Sittings by the House after 10.30 p.m. is two guineas. This figure consists of the overtime payable to postmen clearing the letter boxes, stamping and despatching correspondence, to the telephonists at the private branch exchange and to the drivers of Post Office cars.
