HC Deb 21 March 1951 vol 485 cc301-2W
115. Mr. M. Lindsay

asked the Secretary of State for War between what dates did Headquarters, 29th Division, receive the 15 recommendations for the Military Cross, Distinguished Conduct Medal and Military Medal, of which the hon. Member for Solihull has been notified by the Financial Secretary; who is authorised to make these awards; and when will a decision be taken.

Mr. M. Stewart

These recommendations were received by Headquarters 29th Brigade between 16th and 26th January, 1951. The Commander-in-Chief, British Commonwealth Occupation Force, Japan, is authorised to make up to a total of nine immediate awards of the Distinguished Service Order, Military Cross, Distinguished Conduct Medal or Military Medal to United Kingdom troops in each six months period as from 1st January, 1951. Recommendations which the Commander-in-Chief considers are not of sufficient urgency to warrant an immediate award are forwarded to the War Office for His Majesty's approval and inclusion in the periodical list. Awards, other than immediate awards, in respect of the period 1st January to 30th June, 1951, will be published in the periodical list as early as practicable after the latter date, unless in exceptional circumstances earlier publication is considered desirable.
