HC Deb 19 March 1951 vol 485 cc219-20W
23. Colonel J. R. H. Hutchison

asked the Minister of Fuel and Power whether, in further experiments in underground gasification, he is expanding the experimental areas to any of the coal fields in Scotland.

Mr. P. Noel-Baker

The National Coal Board is engaged in a survey of the coalfields of England, Scotland and Wales to find the most suitable sites for further experimental work on the underground gasification of coal. It is probable that the second site will be in England. But the possibilities of experimental sites in Scotland and Wales will, of course, continue to be given full and equal consideration.
