HC Deb 13 March 1951 vol 485 cc153-4W
149. Mr. Janner

asked the Minister of Health how many nurseries for children have been closed by local authorities during the last year; and whether, in view of the new export drive and the need for all available women workers, he will consider increasing the grant to local authorities to enable day and residential nurseries and nursery schools to be maintained in accordance with the demand.

Mr. Blenkinsop

The particulars asked for in the first part of the Question are not yet available. The percentage grants payable to local authorities in respect of their expenditure on nurseries are fixed by Statute, and the Government see no reason to alter the percentages at the present time.
