HC Deb 05 March 1951 vol 485 cc23-4W
Mr. J. Morrison

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury whether he will give the figures of the total expenditure on public social services in the financial years 1948–49 and 1949–50, respectively.

Mr. Jay

Replying to my hon. Friend the Member for Wycombe (Mr. Haire) on 25th April, 1950, when I gave the figures for public social services for 1947–48, I said that I was reviewing the question how information about expenditure on public social services could best be made available in future. In my view this can best be done by adding revised tables to the Annual Abstract of Statistics published by the Central Statistical Office. Figures were not ready for the last issue of this publication but will be available shortly. To avoid a long delay in publication they will be included, on this occasion, in the Monthly Digest of Statistics. As soon as the tables are ready, I will send a copy to the hon. Gentleman.
