HC Deb 05 March 1951 vol 485 cc20-1W
111. Mr. J. Hynd

asked the Secretary of State for Air what progress has been made towards finding an alternative bombing target to Heligoland.

Mr. A. Henderson

A number of sites, including some off the German coast, are being examined for ranges to take the place of Heligoland. I am glad to say that the Chancellor of the Federal German Republic has agreed to facilitate the establishment of an alternative range or ranges on some sandbanks off the northwest coast of Germany, if survey shows they are suitable for bombing practice. It will, however, inevitably take a considerable time to get a new range established.
