§ 5. Mr. Vaughan-Morganasked the Minister of Fuel and Power whether he is aware of the shortage of boiler fuel in the Reigate, Surrey, area, resulting in people having to go to Redhill Gas Works to obtain coke; and what action he proposes to take to remedy this state of affairs.
§ Mr. P. Noel-BakerLast winter the Redhill and Dorking Gas Works used more coke than usual for making carburetted water gas; in consequence, the coke they had for sale was a little less than in the previous winter. Additional supplies were, however, brought into the area from outside, and in consequence, the total sales were slightly more.
In Reigate, as elsewhere, there is a growing demand for boiler fuel for household use, and I am most anxious to meet it, so far as that can be done. I am also considering measures to improve the distribution of coke, both among the various classes of consumers, and among the different parts of the country.
