§ Mr. Lennox-Boydasked the Secretary of State for War how many seconded British officers or other ranks are serving with the Malay Regiment; and whether those attached or posted to the regiment serve under conditions similar to those of officers of the Brigade of Gurkhas.
§ Mr. StracheyOn 18th June, 1951, there were 145 British officers and 63 British other ranks serving with the Malay Regiment. The conditions of service of officers posted to the Malay Regiment are broadly similar to those of officers serving with the Brigade of Gurkhas. There are, however, small differences, in that for instance an officer of the permanent cadre of the Brigade of Gurkhas receives a slightly higher rate of additional pay and somewhat better leave terms.
