HC Deb 26 February 1951 vol 484 c245W
58. Major Beamish

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what steps he has taken to ensure that the German Federal and Lander laws will provide guarantees that non-German and German refugees, particularly the former, from Communist-dominated parts of Europe will continue to enjoy the right of political asylum in full measure.

Mr. Ernest Davies

Powers governing the admission of German and non-German refugees are still reserved to the Allied High Commission. They will not be relinquished until satisfactory commitments have been made and appropriate action taken by the Federal Government with respect to the admission, care and protection of displaced persons and refugees, including safeguarding their right to political asylum.
