§ 67. Mr. Hurdasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he is aware of the hardship which falls on old age pensioners who lose their tokens for tobacco duty relief and are unable to have them replaced until fresh books are issued next September; and if he will consider allowing replacements to be issued after requiring pensioners to testify before a magistrate declaring the circumstances under which the books were lost.
§ Mr. R. A. ButlerI well understand that there may be hardship in such circumstances, as when a pensioner loses money; but I am afraid that even under the procedure suggested by my hon. Friend I cannot modify the rule that lost token books cannot be replaced.
