HC Deb 04 December 1951 vol 494 c214W
66. Mr. Erroll

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he is aware of the difficulties being caused in the textile trade through public uncertainty about possible changes in the rates of Purchase Tax and by the growing flexibility of the utility scheme which results in practically identical materials being sold with or without Purchase Tax; and if, in order to ensure more steady trading for the next few months, he will give an assurance that no announcement of any change will be made before his Budget speech.

Mr. R. A. Butler

I refer my hon. Friend to the answer given by my hon. Friend the Financial Secretary to the hon. and gallant Member for Macclesfield (Air Commodore Harvey) on 22nd November.
