HC Deb 04 December 1951 vol 494 cc236-7W
122. Mr. Driberg

asked the Secretary of State for War how many families of men killed in Korea have received the special Korean gratuity; and if he has now been able to examine the possibility of paying some portion of this gratuity to the families of prisoners of war.

Mr. Head

The gratuities due to 36 men killed in Korea have been paid to the legal beneficiaries. Further payments are being made daily.

On the second part of the hon. Member's Question, I would refer him to the letter sent to him on 24th November by my right hon. Friend the Prime Minister. I have considered the hon. Member's suggestion that some advance payment might be made when a prisoner of war has been able to express a wish for this to be done, but cases of hardship can be dealt with more suitably in another way.
