asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if, in view of public disquiet at recent outrages on children resulting in some cases in death, he has any statement to make on the situation.

It would not be in the public interest to make any statement while police inquiries are continuing. I am sure the House will join with me in expressing sympathy with the bereaved relatives.
