HC Deb 02 August 1951 vol 491 c232W
65. Mr. G. Cooper

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer, in view of the increasing difficulties in obtaining oil supplies, and the need to develop our own fuel resources, if he will consider reducing or removing the excise duty on home produced oil, and thus encourage an improvement in the efficiency of our national coal utilisation as part of the Government's economic policy.

Mr. Jay

Representations have been made in this sense on behalf of certain producers of oil in the United Kingdom, and are receiving careful consideration.
