HC Deb 26 April 1951 vol 487 cc96-7W
Mr. McKibbin

asked the President of the Board of Trade what was the total amount claimed under the War Damage Act, 1941 (Part 2) Business Scheme; what amount is now outstanding; when it is likely to be paid; whether he will now pay the interest on outstanding claims annually; and how the premiums received to cover the risks compare with the amount of losses.

Mr. Bottomley

The total amount of the claims under the Business Scheme, as assessed, is £92 million, of which £54½ million has been paid out and £37½ million now remains deferred. As regards the third and fourth parts of the Question, I would refer the hon. Member to the answers given on 20th March to the hon. Member for Holland-with-Boston (Mr. Butcher) and on 19th April to the hon. and learned Member for Hove (Mr. Marlowe). As regards the last part of the Question, the total amount received in premiums under the Scheme is rather less than £77 million.
