§ Mr. Alportasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies how many qualified African women teachers are employed in schools of all types in each of the East and Central African territories; and what 168W is the ratio between girl and boy students at the schools in question.
§ Mr. J. Griffiths,pursuant to Mr. COOK'S reply of 28th June, 1950 [OFFICIAL REPORT, Vol. 476; c. 2272], gave the following information
The numbers of qualified African women teachers employed in schools of all types are: Kenya, 407; Northern Rhodesia, 225; Nyasaland, 212; Tanganyika, 581; Uganda, 1,026; Zanzibar, 46.
The ratio of boy to girl students in schools of all types is:
Boys Girls Kenya … 3.1 1 Northern Rhodesia … 1.3 1 Nyasaland … 1.6 1 Tanganyika … 2.8 1 Uganda … 2.8 1 Zanzibar … 2.7 1 These ratios are for African students only, except in the case of Zanzibar for which no separate figures for African and Arab students are available.
