§ Mr. Grimondasked the Minister of Transport in how many cases the appropriate arbitration machinery has awarded on disagreed claims for compensation from road transport concerns; and at what rate per month such decisions are being given by the arbitration machinery.
§ Mr. BarnesI am informed by the Transport Arbitration Tribunal that, up166W to 27th July, 1950, four applications have been received to determine disputes as to compensation in road haulage cases. One case has been heard and judgment reserved. The Tribunal has had no difficulty so far in fixing dates for trial as and when cases come before them.
§ Mr. Grimondasked the Minister of Transport how many claims for compensation he has received from road haulage concerns whose businesses have been nationalised; and in how many cases agreement has been reached on the compensation to be paid.
§ Mr. BarnesThese claims are not made to me. I am, however, informed by the British Transport Commission that at 30th June, 1950, compensation was payable in respect of 2,051 undertakings transferred before that date. Agreements on the compensation payable had been completed or were in course of completion in respect of 38 transferred undertakings, and in addition tentative proposals for settlement in respect of 42 undertakings were under consideration.
§ Mr. Grimondasked the Minister of Transport how many claims for compensation by firms whose businesses have been taken over under the Act nationalising road transport have been disagreed; and in how many cases arbitration has been requested.
§ Mr. BarnesI am informed that, so far, there have been four cases of formal disagreement which fall to be determined by the Transport Arbitration Tribunal.
