HC Deb 21 November 1950 vol 481 c24W
62. Mr. Remnant

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer how much No. 2 Park Street has cost per visitor per night over the last convenient period.

Mr. Gaitskell

The total net cost of 2 Park Street over the last financial year was £19,464. This figure takes into account on the one hand the payment to the Ministry of Works for rent, fittings and furniture hire and on the other revenue from sponsored guests and from departments in respect of Government guests and functions. The net cost is naturally attributable to the use of 2 Park Street both as a residential establishment and as a hospitality centre for receptions, dinners, etc. Any calculation of costs spread over the residential guests is therefore misleading. The number of visitors in the period was 2,466 representing 14,758 visitor nights. It is hoped that the net cost in the current financial year will be reduced as a result of the decision to make the premises available for use by private persons and institutions.
