§ Mr. Keelingasked the Minister of Food what is the estimated annual rate of subsidy on bread at present; and what was the annual rate just before devaluation of sterling.
§ Mr. StracheyThe annual rate of subsidy on bread, after taking into account the increased costs of imported wheat and flour and the increased selling prices, is now estimated at £65¾ million. Before devaluation the annual rate was £67 million. Including flour used for other purposes, the annual rate of the combined flour and bread subsidy was £91½ million before devaluation and is now £92 million per annum.
