§ 57. Mr. Prittasked the Attorney-General whether he has seen two articles in "The People" newspaper of 9th ' January containing the unfounded suggestion that Israel is continually attacking Egyptian territory on orders from the U.S.S.R. to test the Suez Canal defences; that Israel is increasingly controlled by Communists sent and armed by the U.S.S.R.; that the U.S.S.R. is menacing the Suez Canal; and whether he will take criminal proceedings for libel against the persons responsible.
§ The Attorney-GeneralI have considered the articles to which my hon. and learned Friend refers. I do not think that they justify any criminal proceedings on my part.
