asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs how many members of the Foreign Broadcast Information Service of the United States Government are stationed in Cyprus; what is the nature of their employment there; who is responsible for their maintenance; and when they are expected to leave the island.

Mr. McNeil

There are eight American members of the Foreign Broadcast Information Service of the United States Government and 22 other employees stationed in Cyprus; they are employed in the operation of the American Monitoring Station there; the United States Government are responsible for their maintenance. They will remain there as long as it is thought necessary to operate this station.
