HC Deb 21 September 1948 vol 456 cc90-1W
Mr. Piratin

asked the Minister of Food if arising from the programme cuts of food announced last year with the aim of reaching a saving of £12 million per month, he can now state month by month what has been the saving in money, the quantities of foods concerned and the effect on the national nutrition standards.

Mr. Strachey

Since these cuts were announced the position has changed so much as a result of price movements and of bilateral agreements with food exporting countries that it is no longer possible to make a valid estimate of the saving.
