§ Mr. StracheyThe proportions of rationed foods allocated to canteens and restaurants, in 1947, expressed as percentages of total supplies, excluding quantities authorised to manufacturers and trade users, were as follow:
it an offence to sell or buy privately or by auction any pig weighing more than 160 lb. liveweight, unless sold for breeding purposes or to the Ministry of Food for slaughter; how many officials are engaged in administering the Order; what is the cost of its administration; and how long he intends to maintain it in operation.
§ Mr. StracheyThis Order is designed to prevent the sale of pigs for illicit and irregular slaughter. The work of administering the Order is included with other duties performed by the staff of my Department. The weights of pigs are determined at markets by authorised officers appointed from among farmers nominated by the National Farmers' Unions. We estimate that the fees for these authorised officers will amount to about £20,000 a year. The Order will be kept in force as long as it is needed.
