HC Deb 20 September 1948 vol 456 c22W
96. Mr. Osborne

asked the Minister of Food if he is aware of the dissatisfaction of members of pig clubs at the lack of facilities for checking the weight of their pigs before being sent for slaughter, and at the loss of weight because of their being sent long distances for slaughter; and if he will investigate these matters and make a statement.

Mr. Strachey

I do not know of much dissatisfaction of this kind. The conditions under which pigs are purchased for slaughter have been framed in consultation with the producers' organisations and provide for allowances to cover loss of weight in transit when pigs are moved more than 50 miles for slaughter.
