HC Deb 20 September 1948 vol 456 c21W
91. Mr. Turton

asked the Minister of Food what action he is taking with the object of importing linseed or linseed cakes and meal, in view of the U.S. Department of Agriculture's declaration that linseed and its products are to be regarded as surplus commodities in the United States.

Mr. Strachey

Only linseed oil has been declared surplus. Its importation from the U.S.A. will be considered if this proves the most advantageous source of supply.

92. Mr. Turton

asked the Minister of Food what were the exporting countries and the respective amounts imported of the 170,000 tons of linseed cake and meal imported during the first seven months of 1948.

Mr. Strachey

All of the 170,000 tons of linseed cake and meal imported into the United Kingdom in the first seven months of 1948 came from the Argentine Republic.
