HC Deb 04 March 1948 vol 448 c84W
66. Mr. Palmer

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if, in view of the urgent need for recruits in the Metropolitan Police force, he will consider modifying the present high dental standards required to pass new recruits.

Mr. Ede

The dental standards prescribed for recruits to the Metropolitan Police have already been relaxed in some respects, and the Commissioner of Police is at present considering, in consultation with the chief medical officer and the chief dental surgeon, whether they could be further relaxed without prejudicing the high standard of physique required of a police officer.
