HC Deb 09 February 1948 vol 447 c27W
Mr. Dodds-Parker

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what is the present strength of the European element of the Police Force in Nyasaland; and what proposals he has to strengthen it.

Mr. Rees-Williams

The establishment and present strength of the European element of the Police Force in Nyasaland are:

Establishment. Strength.
Commissioner 1 1
Assistant Commissioner 1 1
Superintendents 2 2
Assistant Superintendents 5 5
Inspectors 11 10
20 19

Following on a review in 1947 it is proposed to add seven European officers to the establishment and as a first step provision has been made in the 1948 Estimates for four additional appointments in the grade of Inspector which will be filled from personnel becoming available from Palestine.
