§ Mr. D. J. Williamsasked the President of the Board of Trade why he has decided to abandon the projected clothing factory at Pontardawe, Glamorganshire, which was approved two years ago; if he is aware that not a single factory has been located in this area under the Distribution of Industry Act, 1945, and that this is causing serious concern to the people of the district; and if he will reconsider his decision.
§ Mr. H. WilsonThe project to which my hon. Friend refers and which was approved two years ago, was subsequently abandoned by the applicants. At a much later date a substantially modified scheme was put forward, but I fear that it has been necessary to defer this on account of the cuts arising from the review of the Capital Investment programme. While I am aware that no factory has been allocated in Pontardawe itself under the Distribution of Industry Act I would remind my hon. Friend of the opportunities for employment which have been or are being provided within a few miles of this place.
