HC Deb 02 February 1948 vol 446 c214W
53. Colonel Clarke

asked the Minister of Agriculture if he will assure the House that the Thames Conservancy Board have declared their ability to accept the increased flood water which will be discharged into the River Mole by the proposed drainage plan for the Crawley new town area without detriment to other interests in the lower course of this river.

Mr. T. Williams

The development of the new town will necessitate works on the upper reaches of the River Mole and its tributaries, the Gatwick Stream and Crawter's Brook which in their present state are not in a condition to receive additional flood water. I am not therefore in a position to give such an assurance as the hon. and gallant Member asks for, but I can assure him that the Development Corporation and the Thames Conservancy are in consultation about the works that will be necessary as the Corporation's development proposals proceed.
