§ Mr. Awberyasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he is aware that the retailers of goods on which Purchase Tax is payable suffer heavy losses by the sudden reduction or abolition of this tax which they can neither anticipate nor control; and what steps he proposes to take in such cases to refund to these retailers the tax which they have paid in advance on goods and which cannot be recovered from the purchaser.
