asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what is the status and definition of duties of the Governor-General of the Malayan Union and of the Colony of Singapore, H.E. the Right Hon. Malcolm Macdonald; the Governor and Commander-in-Chief of the Malayan Union, H.E. Sir Edward Gent, K.C.M.G., D.S.O., O.B.E., M.C.; the Governor and Commander-in-Chief of Singapore Colony, H.E. Sir Franklin Charles Gimson, K.C.M.G.; and H.E. the Right Hon. Lord Killearn, G.C.M.G., C.B., Special Commissioner in S.E. Asia with headquarters at Singapore.

I would invite the hon. Member's attention to the reply given on this subject to the hon. Member for Bury (Mr. W. Fletcher) on 23rd June last, by my hon. Friend the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, The position has not changed since that date, but Mr. Malcolm MacDonald is to take over the combined functions of Governor-General and Special Commissioner early next year.
