HC Deb 19 November 1947 vol 444 cc183-4W
66. Mr. Symonds

asked the Minister of Food if he has yet come to a decision on the proposal to make the purchase of baby milk foods by holders of green ration books an alternative to the priority fresh milk ration for babies under 12 months rather than an addition to it, and thus leave more fresh milk available for other purposes.

Mr. Strachey

Stocks of proprietary infant foods are not large enough, I am afraid, to enable us to guarantee supplies of a particular brand, as we should have to if people gave up the green ration book entitlement to liquid milk. I will reconsider my hon. Friend's suggestion when production of dried milk can be increased and stocks built up.
