HC Deb 17 November 1947 vol 444 c140W
103. Mr. Chetwynd

asked the Minister of Food whether he will give the calorie content of the No. 2 diet suggested for an adult man by the British Medical Association in 1933 and of the present average diet in the following proportions: proteins, fats and carbohydrates.

Dr. Summerskill

Of the 3,386 calories in the British Medical Association diet Number 2 published in 1933, 12 per cent. were derived from protein, 28 per cent from fat and 60 per cent. from carbohydrate. The corresponding proportions in the present-day average diet are 12 per cent., 33 per cent. and 55 per cent respectively.
