HC Deb 04 November 1947 vol 443 c176W
50. Mr. Shawcross

asked the Minister for Economic Affairs what steps he proposes to take to secure that manufacturers of articles for export having a high conversion value will receive priority in the supply of materials and labour.

Mr. Marquand

I have been asked to reply. With regard to materials, the existing priority system is at present under review. In the meantime steps have already been taken to ensure that manufacturers of articles for export having a high conversion value receive special consideration. With regard to labour, the work of such manufacturers is automatically recognised to be essential when placing workers under the Control of Engagement Order, and priority in the supply of labour is given to individual undertakings of this sort whenever this is found to be necessary.
