§ 104. Mr. McAdamasked the Minister of Pensions if he will give the number of ex-Servicemen of the 1899–1902 South African campaign who are in receipt of disability pensions; and if their pensions have been brought into line with present pension scales.
§ Mr. BuchananAbout 3,000 ex-Service-men are receiving pensions for disablement due to service in the South African War. These pensions when awarded were related not solely to the degree of disablement but could take account of service, character and, at times, the circumstances in which a wound was sustained. Where, 189W by reference to his disability, it is to the pensioner's advantage, he is now receiving World War rates. Where, however, his existing rate of pension is more favourable to him than re-assessment on World War rates by reference to his disability, he retains his old rate, to which may be added additions under the Pensions (Increase) Warrants.
