HC Deb 03 November 1947 vol 443 cc147-8W
65. Mr. Turton

asked the hon. Member for the Park division of Sheffield as representing the Ecclesiastical Commissioners, how many cottages the Commissioners propose to build for agricultural workers in the Midlands and the North of England; and when it is proposed the work on these cottages will start.

Mr. Burden

The Ecclesiastical Commissioners have proposed a scheme for the building of 600 agricultural cottages on their estates in the North, Midland and Western areas, and the Minister of Health is understood to have approved the scheme in principle. A beginning is now being worked out in practical detail, but it is not yet possible to forecast any date or the rate of progress with the scheme.
