HC Deb 27 March 1947 vol 435 cc220-1W
Major Wise

asked the President of the Board of Trade if instructions will now be given to artificial manure merchants that orders received after 31st January last for straight muriate of potash will now be executed; and if he will make arrangements for sufficient supplies of this essential manure to be made available for use this season.

Sir S. Cripps

In order that the demand for straight potash may be met to the same extent as the demand for potash in compounds, instructions were given in the middle of February that the bulk of supplies arriving between then and the end of March should be made available for straight use. The division of supplies due to arrive from April onwards is under discussion with my right hon. Friend the Minister of Agriculture, the National Farmers' Union and the fertiliser trade.
