HC Deb 27 March 1947 vol 435 cc224-5W
85. Mr. W. D. Griffiths

asked the Minister of Fuel and Power whether he will place the domestic coal allocation on a coupon-rationed basis.

Mr. Shinwell

No, Sir.

89. Mr. Chamberlain

asked the Minister of Fuel and Power whether, in view of widespread misunderstanding, he will arrange for a clear statement to be broadcast on the matter of domestic fuel supplies, including the standard amounts to which householders are entitled and the position in regard to carry-over as between successive periods.

Mr. Shinwell

Clear statements as to the maximum quantities of coal which are permitted without licence have been repeatedly published in the national and local weekly papers. Deliveries within the maximum depend on the supplies received week by week from the collieries and there is no standard amount to which consumers are entitled. It is not possible to allow any general carry-over of undelivered balances from one restriction period to another, but in exceptional cases where hardship would otherwise arise, the local fuel overseer has power to authorise an extra supply.
