HC Deb 11 March 1947 vol 434 c161W
105 Commander Noble

asked the Secretary of State for War when Regular officers will be allowed to retire from the Army; and whether special consideration will be given now to officers over 35 years of age.

Mr. Bellenger

As I indicated in reply to a Question by the hon. Member for Central Aberdeen and Kincardine (Mr. Spence) on l0th December, the ban on retirement is being progressively lifted. Regular substantive lieutenant-colonels and majors are already allowed to retire or resign on reaching the prewar age limit of their corps. Further instructions will shortly be issued reducing these age limits.
