HC Deb 04 March 1947 vol 434 c54W
101. Mr. Bossom

asked the Minister of Supply what proportion of the 3,656,000 gallons of paints and distempers were sold; to whom were they sold; and what sum was realised.

Mr. Woodburn

Approximately 80 per cent. was sold. The remainder, consisting mainly of camouflage paint which is not required for civil purposes, was destroyed. There were numerous sales transactions and many of them were carried out by regional offices. Details are as follow:

Sold to the trade and builders' merchants from Headquarters 1,317,000
Sold to Government Departments 886,000
Sold regionally 614,000
Sold by public auction (Newbury) 8,000
Total sales 2,825,000
Destroyed 831,000
Total 3,656,000

I regret that information about the sum realised is not available centrally.
