§ 86. Lord John Hopeasked the President of the Board of Trade whether he is now in a position to say what steps the Government are taking towards the location of light industry in the Development Areas of Midlothian and West Lothian, respectively.

CrippsI would refer the noble Lord to the reply I gave him in answer to his Question on 22nd May and to a list of new industrial developments in those parts of the counties of Midlothian and West Lothian within the Scottish development area which I forwarded to him on 13th February this year. In addition to these developments, a further project has just been approved at Uphall, which will246W employ about 25 men and 55 women when in full production. The ultimate employment to be provided by all the developments I have referred to considerably exceeds the number of people currently unemployed in the development area portions of the two counties.
